Ms. Edith Adera

Edith has over 28 years of international experience in development research, complex project management and rural transformation across Africa and Asia. She is currently the Lead Coordinator of the flagship Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program (AAAP) and a Regional Principal Officer at the African Development Bank Group. She leads the Bank’s climate change and green growth mainstreaming portfolio in Anglophone West Africa and co-leads the Bank’s global climate (UNFCCC) and biodiversity (CBD) engagements and efforts to combat desertification (UNCCD). The AAAP that she coordinates is a $25 billion partnership program between the African Development Bank Group and the Global Centre on Adaptation (GCA) aimed at accelerating and scaling up climate adaptation actions across Africa.

Prior to joining the Bank, Edith worked with the renown Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) for over 22 years in senior positions in the fields of climate change, agriculture, environment, and ICTs for development. She was the Team Leader of IDRC’s flagship ACACIA Program, a multi-million-dollar initiative, that pioneered research in Africa on the transformative effects of ICTs in key development sectors including health, education, agriculture, environment/climate change, governance, poverty reduction, gender, and the economic empowerment of women. In this position, she engaged with high level government officials across Africa; supervised senior professional staff spread across Africa and Canada, navigating complex organizational change management processes, people management and leading strategic planning, budgeting, and implementation processes. Ms. Adera was successful in defending the Acacia programs’ strategic plan to the IDRC Board of Governors, obtaining unanimous approval and appreciation of the Board for the re-orientation of the Acacia program. Edith is recognized as an energetic, inspired, and respected senior executive.
