Ambassador Ronald Gerard Strikker was born in Almelo, the Netherlands, on 14 April 1955. After having finished his secondary education (grammar school) at the Gymnasium the Grundel in Hengelo (O), he read law at the University of Utrecht where he graduated in 1980.
Later that year, Mr. Strikker joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was posted in Nairobi, Tunis, Paris (Ecole Nationale d’Administration, ENA), Santiago de Chile and Bangkok, as well as in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague, where he had assignments at the Legal Department of the Directorate General for International Co-operation, at the Directorate for European Integration and at the Directorate for Consular Affairs and Migration Policy.
As from 2001 he had the following assignments:
2001 – 2004
Deputy Head of the Task Force for the Netherlands’ Presidency of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe
2004 – 2008 Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Political Department, Netherlands Embassy in London
2008 – 2012 Ambassador in Riyadh, to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
2012 – 2016 Ambassador in Rabat, to the Kingdom of Morocco
2016 – present Ambassador designate in Accra, to the Republic of Ghana, the Republic of Liberia, the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Republic of Togo.
Mr. Strikker is married to Conny Westgeest and they have a son.
